Paros Island

Paros Island Greece windmill Paros is the island of the famous poet Archilogou and the sculpter Skopa. It is famous for their fabulous wine, barley, oil, honey, fresh seafood from the fishing about of Piso Libadi and Drisou. The crystal-clear beaches and the quaint little villages, combined with friendly and simple local people, who make the island an ideal destination for Greek and foreigner tourists. The Municipality of Paros is made up of 7 villages: Parikia or Parkia, Naousa, Kostos, Lefkes, Marpissa, Archilohos and Agkeria.

One of the more beautiful villages of the island is Marpissa, which is situated on the southern side of the island and has the clean beaches on the island who have also been rewarded with the Blue Flag Award. /The Piso Livadi, Logaras, Tserdakia, Chrisi Akti, Dryos and many other small beaches, give a visitor the chance to enjoy swimming, the traditional cuisine and the exceptional accommodation.

The area, except for its natural beauty has also many traditional presentations starting from Easter all the way through to the end of summer. On Good Friday there is a reenactment of Christ crucifixion, at Marpissa. It is a singular event in Greece and a very old custom that all the children of the village participate. Easter Sunday is a celebration of Love and unites all the locals and visitors in a huge celebration with lamb on the spit, local wine, music and dancing. The Ascension of Christ at Piso Lovadi is celebrated with grilled fish and octopus, an abundant flow of wine, the fishing boats moored to the bay lit fireworks.

On the 6th of August the Sotiros celebration is held at Marpissa. A trade fair is held as well as concerts and exhibitions, And last but not least, lets not forget the windsurfing, kite surfing and Beach volley tournaments that are held at Tserdakia, where every year famous athletes from the entire world come to island that has a well-developed tourist market, with many hotel establishments.

Paros attracts thousands of visitors every year. The island is filled with fertile valleys that are bursting with vineyards, olive groves and fruit bearing trees. The monasteries, churches, snow-white cycladic villages, but also by the many archeological sites such as Asklipieo and Dilio, will surely enchant a visitor. Some remarkable sights are Kastro in the capital of the island, Parikia and Panagia the Ekatontapiliani, one of the most important Byzantine monuments of Greece. Don't miss out on the chance in seeing Naousa, the main area of the island where all hotels and resorts are found.

The island is connected by ferries and catamarans with Piraeus, Rafina port Crete, Santorini, Naxos, Tinos, Syros.

Santorini has airport and both domestic and international flights are scheduled. Domestic flights are served by Olympic Airways.
